[something] [something]

I spun by to this page today as I was conscious I had not posted anything in a while. It’s not that I’ve disappeared or stopped blogging, rather it’s just I’ve had (and am still having) one of those busy spells in work.

It’s not just silly hours - it’s the more involved “busy” the one that is mentally exhausting and comes with a lot of stress.

One of the downsides is it leaves me unimaginative and jaded. So I’m simply out of ideas to blog about - not that the ones I had before were terribly creative, but even within the limited confines of my previous creativity … I got nothing.

Still, there is light at the end of the tunnel and this busy spell will pass … in time.

Laters!

C.

Missing iPhone app is definitely a to-do list. I know there are...

Missing iPhone app is definitely a to-do list. I know there are other apps like things and omnifocus - but they plug into their own to-do lists. Using other apps as a work around is effectively employing a middle-man to address a missing functionality.

I would much rather be able to access my to-do list in iCal on my iPhone than have to manage a workaround through another application.

iPhone apps are all the rage these days since Apple launched the...

iPhone apps are all the rage these days since Apple launched the App Store. At first I wasn’t really sold on them as they were pretty poor and really seemed like new ways to drain your battery, and the 3G iPhone didn’t need that.

However, they really have improved and the cost of the apps has been kept low. The majority remain free and even when not free you can generally pick them up for less than the price of a cup of coffee (79c - €2.49) I have also found that even where there are pay for apps available there are often free versions around also, sometimes better than the pay for versions (Evernote is a handful of paid apps rolled into one fantastic free app).

Favourites include:

NetNewWire: Get all your news feeds to your phone. Handy, especially first thing in the morning when you don’t really feel like going looking for things.

Evernote: Audio Notes, Picture Notes, Text notes. Sync online so you can access them from any computer.

Zenbe: Lists are handy, but why pay for a list app when Zenbe does a great job of it for free?

Facebook / Twitterific / Twinkle / Twittelator: Keep in touch with your social networks - although why I need 3 twitter apps is a discussion for another post.

The new iPhone is on a 3G network and there are a few improvements to it’s features, better battery life etc. Having used my iPod Touch for the past few months in lieu of an iPhone when it was initially released I have been completely taken by the user experience these Apple products provide.

I have started the process of winding down my vodafone contract and plan to register for the new iPhone on the 1st of July.

A real selling point for me though - the moment where I said yes I can really get value from this item - was once I understood the MobileMe service being provided by Apple.

As I already am a dot.mac subscriber I will be automatically upgraded to the MobileMe service when it is launched. Each day I use the Apple applications: iCal, Address Book and Mail on my MacBook, my iMac and my iPod touch. Now with MobileMe (and the iPhone) I will have use of the same applications but they will automatically be kept up-to-date across all devices with my information.

For someone that uses these applications daily this is a simply HUGE benefit, and one I am eager to try out. I have no doubt this will make an impact not only on how I work with those applications and the amount of use I get out of them but I believe there will be a knock-on effect later in the year to Apples iLife and iWork suites.

So there you have it, two new products from Apple means I am looking forward to a new Mac experience.

Roller-coaster of Classical Fun

Roller-coaster of Classical Fun

Firefox 3 Launch Party - Dublin, June 19th.

On June 19th in Dublin a launch party for the newest version of Firefox (Firefox3) is being held and anyone can attend so long as they pre-register here. I strongly recommend you sign up to attend the bash, cause Geeks know how to party.
