Rethinking my office
I’ve been informed that next month we are moving to a new office. Currently I am based in a lovely old georgian building in Dublin, however the new office is a more modern design with an open plan layout. One concern already raised by my colleagues is the lack of filing space. We lawyers tend to generate a lot of paper for filing. Rather than worry where I will put all this paper, I have been taking a good hard look at my own office and how I will change my habits in the new environment.
The way I see it our current work practices will not fit in with the new work environment, so rather than demand the environment changes to suit me, I am looking to make some of changes of my own in order to fit in to the new environment.
I will be aiming to maintain a minimalist work space. I want to manage a clean working area with all relevant material filed away but close to hand. I want the workspace to exude professionalism, competency and organisation.
The first step is to cut down on paper - massively. Much of the printing I do each day is necessary, however I’m sure I can probably cut it down a lot further - possibly by 60% if I make an effort. In addition I need to take to shredding old documents more frequently to avoid the building up of stacks of documents that I’m not sure what to do with.
I’ll be looking through many of the posts on http://unclutterer.com to see what other tricks / tips I can put into use. I will also be buying accessories for my desk that should help combat the clutter, anything that i find is working for me will be posted about here.
