Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii was released today and I picked up a copy.  Above is a video of SSBB put to the audio of the 300 trailer (quite well done).  Looking forward to this game that has a had a great buzz about its release for some time now.  It is a fighting game combining iconic characters from across the nintendo games.  Apparently the game is incredible fun as multi-player.  This is one of the reasons I actually prefer the Wii to my xBox 360.  The games really are just all about fun!

Can’t wait to get into this one.

iPhone 3G and MobileMe ... my new Mac experience

I first started using Apple products in 2004.  Since then I have been completely won over by them, a huge factor of my continuing appreciation for Apple products is the ability Apple have to consistently improve.  My experience as a Mac user in 2004 is vastly different to my experience as a Mac user in 2008.  This week at the Apple WWDC 2008 (World Wide Developer Conference) Apple announced the release of the iPhone 3G.  This is the announcement I have been waiting for since the iPhone first came available in Ireland in March of this year.  I’ll admit it’s far earlier than I had anticipated, but welcome nonetheless.

Apple iPhone

The new iPhone is on a 3G network and there are a few improvements to it’s features, better battery life etc.  Having used my iPod Touch for the past few months in lieu of an iPhone when it was initially released I have been completely taken by the user experience these Apple products provide.

I have started the process of winding down my vodafone contract and plan to register for the new iPhone on the 1st of July.

A real selling point for me though - the moment where I said yes I can really get value from this item - was once I understood the MobileMe service being provided by Apple.

MobileMe

As I already am a dot.mac subscriber I will be automatically upgraded to the MobileMe service when it is launched.  Each day I use the Apple applications: iCal, Address Book and Mail on my MacBook, my iMac and my iPod touch.  Now with MobileMe (and the iPhone) I will have use of the same applications but they will automatically be kept up-to-date across all devices with my information.

For someone that uses these applications daily this is a simply HUGE benefit, and one I am eager to try out.  I have no doubt this will make an impact not only on how I work with those applications and the amount of use I get out of them but I believe there will be a knock-on effect later in the year to Apples iLife and iWork suites.

So there you have it, two new products from Apple means I am looking forward to a new Mac experience.

Firefox 3 Launch Party - Dublin, June 19th.
Firefox is one of the most well respected browsers available, not only for the host of addons and tweaks available to customize your browsing experience but also due to the enhanced security over internet explorer.  Furthermore it is an Open Source application, which means its free to download and use as you please.
On June 19th in Dublin a launch party for the newest version of Firefox (Firefox3) is being held and anyone can attend so long as they pre-register here.  I strongly recommend you sign up to attend the bash, cause Geeks know how to party.

Rethinking my office

I’ve been informed that next month we are moving to a new office.  Currently I am based in a lovely old georgian building in Dublin, however the new office is a more modern design with an open plan layout.  One concern already raised by my colleagues is the lack of filing space.  We lawyers tend to generate a lot of paper for filing.  Rather than worry where I will put all this paper, I have been taking a good hard look at my own office and how I will change my habits in the new environment.

The way I see it our current work practices will not fit in with the new work environment, so rather than demand the environment changes to suit me, I am looking to make some of changes of my own in order to fit in to the new environment.

I will be aiming to maintain a minimalist work space.  I want to manage a clean working area with all relevant material filed away but close to hand.  I want the workspace to exude professionalism, competency and organisation.

The first step is to cut down on paper - massively.  Much of the printing I do each day is necessary, however I’m sure I can probably cut it down a lot further - possibly by 60% if I make an effort.  In addition I need to take to shredding old documents more frequently to avoid the building up of stacks of documents that I’m not sure what to do with.

I’ll be looking through many of the posts on http://unclutterer.com to see what other tricks / tips I can put into use.  I will also be buying accessories for my desk that should help combat the clutter, anything that i find is working for me will be posted about here.
